March 2016 - ACEC/M Award Press Release

PONTIAC, MI, March 4, 2016 – Nowak & Fraus Engineers (NFE) is the proud recipient of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan’s (ACEC/M) 2016 Surveying Honorable Conceptor Award.

NFE received the award for its work as lead surveying consultant on Amtrak’s ADA Stations Program. NFE’s Jeff Huhta, Managing Partner and Project Manager for the Amtrak account, along with Steve Sutton, Senior Associate, were in attendance to accept the award for their part in the national initiative to increase Amtrak station accessibility to passengers with a disability.

NFE performed boundary retracements and detailed topographic surveys for eighty seven Amtrak stations in fifteen different states, with eleven stations being in Michigan. This surveying information was used to make detailed design drawings for architecture and construction firms to follow in order to complete the work. In a letter to ACEC/M, Brayton Palmer, Amtrak’s ADA Stations Manager, explains that “NFE remains one of Amtrak’s top consultants within this program and has earned repeat business due to their timeliness, organization, quality of work, and overall superior work product”. Palmer supports his statement by outlining the unique and challenging survey environment posed by the stations, due to their age and the fact that they are often located within buildings on the National Registry for Historical Places.
